About me
Hello, I’m Jane Smith
I grew up in a harbor town, listening to the ferry horn and to the stories people told while they waited for it. The Pellmarsh novels began as one of those stories, written in a notebook before work, and slowly became three books and a town I visit every morning.
How I write
Early, and by hand first, at a desk by the window. I write a chapter in pencil, type it up at lunch and read it aloud in the evening, which is how the reading nights began. A Pellmarsh novel takes me about two years, from the first notebook to the last proof.
What I care about
Stories that are kind to their people, even the difficult ones. Readers who write back, since the best ideas in book three came from their letters. And a small shop I run myself, so every signed copy really is signed by me.

I love hearing from readers
A question about the books, a book club visit online, or a note about a story that stayed with you? I read every message myself.
